When Basim declines a lucrative job offer in London, choosing to return to Lahore and serve his country, he thinks he has won half the battle. But once he actually tries to enforce change for the good, he discovers that the battle has only just started, even something as small as improving the working conditions for his house staff seeming like an insurmountable obstacle.

His chief objective, to teach law to his childhood friend and house servant, Furqan, so that he can become a practicing lawyer goes well at first. But Furqan is secretly in love with Basim's sister Momina. He knows that he has no hope of her loving him back.
